Job summary

Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska, is seeking a Registered Nurse in the Surgery department to provide safe, high-quality patient care in accordance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act and BBGH policies. The RN works with physicians and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and lead patient education.

Must have graduated from an accredited RN program and hold BLS and ACLS certifications; PALS/ENPC/TNCC may be preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality patient care in accordance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, professional nursing standards, and Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) policies and procedures. The RN practices within the competencies required for the surgical setting and is accountable for the quality of care provided directly or through delegated responsibilities.

Working collaboratively with physicians, surgeons, and interdisciplinary team members, the RN coordinates and manages patient care to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. This role provides leadership in patient care delivery, promotes patient and family education, participates in performance improvement initiatives, and supports a culture of service excellence and patient safety.

The RN serves as an advocate, educator, and care coordinator for patients and families across the continuum of care. Responsibilities also include identifying operational needs, recommending resource improvements, and contributing to department goals and budget planning.

Essential Functions

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care within the scope of nursing practice.
• Provide individualized patient and family education based on identified needs.
• Accurately transcribe, interpret, and implement physician orders, protocols, and care plans.
• Coordinate patient care activities with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
• Delegate appropriate patient care activities to licensed and unlicensed personnel in accordance with regulatory requirements and hospital policy.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance excellence initiatives.
• Support departmental operations and complete other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

• Surgery Department position with participation in a rotating on-call schedule as required by departmental staffing needs.

Education

Required:

Graduate from an approved Registered Nursing Program

Experience/Qualifications

R equired Licensure and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Preferred or Required Within Departmental Timeframe

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
