Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a Registered Nurse Supervisor Senior for State Farm Correctional Center. The role oversees nursing staff, ensures continuous medical services, and coordinates with Health Services Unit to deliver quality inmate care.

A valid Virginia RN license and BLS are required. Responsibilities include leadership of RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing staff, plus acting as Health Authority when the RN Coordinator criteria are not met.

Job Duties

$7,500 Sign-On Bonus or up to 10K Student Loan Repayment may be available for eligible new hires.

Provides quality professional health care to inmates and assist employees during emergency events. Leads and oversees the direction and supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants (CNA), Registered Nurses (RN), and Registered Nurse Supervisors (RNCA). Serves as a liaison between Operations at the institution and the Health Services Unit. Responsible for the continuous operation of medical services at the institution. Acts as the designated Health Authority if the facility does not meet the criteria for a Registered Nurse Coordinator (RNC), or there is no RNC/Director of Nursing. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Must possess and maintain valid unrestricted Virginia RN license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not yet licensed, NCLEX-RN Exam must be scheduled at time of application)
• Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
• Working experience as a supervisor or charge nurse
• Experience with monitoring staff performance, including the disciplinary process, conducting evaluations, and creation of work duties
• Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices, to include Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), education/training requirements, and patient safety
• Knowledge of medication use, actions, and side effects
• Ability to effectively communicate, direct and delegate to others while maintaining the daily operations of the department
• Skillful in organizing, planning, and implementing policies and procedures
