Job summary

Noland Health Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to supervise nursing staff and oversee direct resident care in a skilled nursing setting.

The role requires ensuring care plans are followed, conducting rounds with physicians, and documenting patient responses to treatments in accordance with policy. The ideal candidate holds Alabama RN licensure, has CPR certification, and can coordinate care with physicians and family members.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed RN in Alabama.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a skilled nursing facility.
• Current CPR certification required.
• Ability to use computer software for documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily nursing activities by RN supervision of LPNs, MACs and CNAs.
• Provide direct resident care per care plans and physician orders; document responses.
• Communicate with physicians and nursing leadership about resident status and admissions.
• Perform rounds with physicians and document care and treatment.
• Transcribe and verify physician orders; ensure they are executed.
• Meet with residents or families as needed and report issues.
• Complete medication pass audits; report discrepancies.
• Complete forms and reports; coordinate resident activities with staff.
• Report all discrepancies to nursing leadership and supervise staff as directed.

Summary of Duties

Provide direct care to residents as needed in accordance with care plan applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines, and supervise daily nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Medication Assistants Certified (MAC), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA).

Essential Job Functions

• Direct the day-to-day nursing functions of LPNs, MACs and CNAs on designated nursing units during the assigned shift ensuring that care is rendered according to the resident’s plan of care and facility policy, procedures and guidelines.
• Provide resident care to include but not limited to assessments, care planning, treatments, medications, interventions, communications, and other resident care activities according to the resident care plans and physician orders. Document the residents’ response to the care consistent with applicable policies, guidelines and regulations.
• Communicate with physicians, Director of Nursing Services and other employees, as necessary, concerning the status of residents, any new admissions and activities on the shift. Report residents’ condition and shift occurrences to oncoming staff.
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary and document care and treatment as indicated.
• Review and transcribe physician orders according to policy and ensure orders have been executed.
• Meet with residents, and/or family members, as necessary. Report problem areas to the Supervisor.
• Complete medication pass audits and counts medication as assigned. Report any discrepancies to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
• Complete forms, communication records, and reports as required.
• Coordinate resident activities with other staff members and departments as indicated and inform staff of new resident admissions.
• Report all discrepancies, problems, and/or issues regarding resident care to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse – RN by the State of Alabama. One (1) year experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred.

Specific Requirements

• Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
• Must possess and maintain current CPR certification.
• Must possess computer skills and demonstrate the ability to become proficient with appropriate software.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Physical Requirements For Essential Job Functions

• Must be able to move about intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work day.
• Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
• Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
