Job summary

Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board, Inc. is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse in Fort Defiance, AZ. The role requires three years of RN experience in medical/surgical, acute, or critical care settings and an AS degree in Nursing with an unrestricted RN license.

You will assess patients, administer treatments, monitor, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include IV therapy, vital signs monitoring, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Three (3) year Registered Nurse experience in medical/surgical, acute, and/or critical care setting.
• Associate of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory.

Responsibilities

• Observes and assess health status of patients by physical assessment and examination, interviewing patient and family members, and reviewing patient’s health history.
• Initiates and administers treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on provider orders and protocols.
• Initiates and administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the ordering provider such as medications, IV fluids, blood products, oxygen therapy, etc.
• Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, and hemodynamic data.
• Manages patients undergoing local anesthesia and IV sedation.
• Collaborates with unit teams to plan and implement interventions for patient care.
• Provides IV and respiratory therapy as indicated and follows protocol.
• Develops and revises problem-oriented nursing care plans.
• Ensures sterility of materials and supports quality assurance in patient care.

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

• Observes and assess health status of patients by physical assessment and examination, interviewing patient and family members, and reviewing patient’s health history.
• Initiates and administers treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of providers orders, standing orders and protocols to the unit assigned.
• Initiates and administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the ordering provider such as medication treatments, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, oxygen therapy, etc.
• Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic monitoring data, and other data relevant to patients in the unit.
• Responsible for independent management of patients undergoing local anesthesia and intravenous (IV) sedation.
• Provides specialized knowledge and skills to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients undergoing procedures.
• Operates and monitors specialized equipment pertinent to the unit.
• Collaborates with members of the units and multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, and implementing intervention in the management of patient’s health care.
• Provides intravenous and respiratory therapy for patients as indicated by circumstances and needs, following protocol.
• Utilizes Standards of Care to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an appropriate problem oriented nursing plan of care for the patient and management of the unit.
• Monitors supplies and instruments to assure sterility of materials used furthering Quality Assurance of patient care.
• Participates as a member of hospital committees relative to patient care.
• Participates in planning and conducting continuing education in nursing care, quality assurance, and performance improvement, and care of instruments and supplies.
• Collaborates with team members and other personnel as needed to facilitate methods of resolution and solutions to problems.
• Identifies specific issues related to program planning and development and works with the nursing leadership team to determine methods of solution to those problems.
• Think critically, be clinically competent and communicate effectively while multi-tasking and prioritizing patient care.
• Functions in any nursing unit as assigned and appropriate.
• Successfully cross-train to Emergency Department (ED), Multi-Service Unit (MSU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Inpatient Obstetrics Unit (OB/GYN) (for female candidates) during six (6) months orientation period.
• Completes all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training by the indicated due dates.
• Assists, promotes, and supports compliance with established CMS standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications

Experience

Education

Emergency Department (ED)

• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certification or valid Emergency Nurse Association (ENA) certification in Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and maintain certification.
• Valid Emergency Nurse Association (ENA) certification in Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) and maintain certification or valid Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) certification in Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) and maintain certification or valid Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) certification in Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) and maintain certification or valid American College of Surgeons (ACS) certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and maintain certification or valid Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) certification in Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) and maintain certification.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certification.
• Obtain valid certification in Moderate Sedation within six (6) months from date of hire and maintain certification.

Multi-Service Unit (MSU)

• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain certification.
• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certification.

Obstetrics Unit (OBU)

• Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
