Job summary

Health First is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct and indirect patient care, following the nursing process in a collaborative environment. You will promote evidence-based outcomes, care coordination, and family engagement across the care continuum.

Responsibilities include medication administration, care documentation, rounds participation, discharge planning support, and ongoing patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

  • ASN or Nursing Diploma required.
  • Florida RN licensure or endorsement.
  • AHA BLS Healthcare Provider before start date, maintained.
  • Unit-specific certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS) may be required.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking; proficient in EMR and documentation.

Position Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care by adhering to the nursing process in a collaborative environment, promoting optimal patient outcomes through evidence-based practice, care coordination, and patient and family engagement.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Provides safe and effective nursing care based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient needs across the care continuum.
  • Administers medications, performs treatments, and documents care activities in accordance with Health First’s policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, participate in rounds, and support discharge planning.
  • Applies critical thinking to promptly identify changes in patient condition and initiate the appropriate interventions.
  • Educates patients and families using teach‑back to promote engagement in care and safe transitions.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and infection prevention practices to protect patients and associates.
  • Utilizes Health First technology systems to enter clinical documentation and care plans.
  • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiatives.
  • Supports precepting, mentoring, and onboarding of new associates and students as appropriate.
  • Promotes a culture of purpose, rounding, and communication at the bedside (e.g., whiteboard use, bedside shift report).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma.
  • Work Experience: Meets unit‑specific care requirements; new graduates considered based on unit needs.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
  • Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained. Additional certifications to meet unit‑specific care requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS).
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills; proficiency in EMR systems and patient documentation; demonstrated initiative in quality and patient safety improvements; ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in complex environments; must maintain compliance with competency validations and continuing education; demonstrates flexibility, reliability, and commitment to a collaborative work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Work Experience: One (1) year or more of acute care or specialty setting.
  • Certification: National certification in specialty area (e.g., CCRN, CMSRN, CEN).
Physical Requirements
  • Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
  • Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
  • May require moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
  • May be exposed to biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
  • May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
