Job summary

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate RN to join our nursing team in the Vascular Access department at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. This on-site position provides a base pay of $36.40/hour with a weekend differential of $3.00/hour and required shifts (8 hours every two weeks, plus one winter and one summer holiday).

Responsibilities

  • Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.
  • Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly using validated tools.
  • Demonstrate understanding of medications, educate patients and families about medications, and report pertinent information.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and maintain hospital standards and unit policies.
  • Participate in meetings, in-services, and quality improvement activities; adhere to attendance and dress code.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.
  • Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.).
  • Demonstrates an understanding of medications with regards to action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes. Maintain the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.
  • Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Full understanding of the attendance and punctuality guidelines, and adhere to the dress code.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, head nurse, charge nurse, and/or nursing supervisor) and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Provides quality care to patients and work with multi-disciplinary team to ensure the highest patient satisfaction. May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • One (1) year of RN experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. The role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses

This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holidays and work during inclement weather will be required.
