Job summary

Position Overview

Clinical Nurse 2 – Critical Care Unit, Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA. Night shift (7 pm–7 am) with the 3rd weekend and rotating holidays. 36 hours per week.

Unit Information

The 16‑bed unit cares for trauma and neurological patients including blunt injuries, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, stabbings, farm accidents, strokes, brain bleeds, brain tumors, seizures, and other neurological emergencies. Lancaster General is a Level I Trauma Center and a primary stroke center with thrombectomy capability.

Responsibilities

• Incorporate the hospital’s mission, vision and values into patient planning.
• Perform independent patient assessments and adapt plans based on evolving circumstances.
• Analyze assessment data to determine diagnosis or issues and formulate age‑appropriate, culturally and ethically sensitive care plans.
• Implement care and coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure continuity.
• Provide leadership and communication to team members, promoting expectations of care standards.
• Adhere to privacy, quality, respect, service and teamwork values.
• Assign, delegate and supervise staff to maintain quality care and resource utilization.
• Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment modalities.
• Improve nursing practice quality by utilizing technology and evidence‑based methods.
• Manage rapid changes per protocols while coordinating resources and documenting events.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance continuity, reduce rework and increase efficiency.
• Complete mandatory education and training per unit plan.
• Maintain a safe environment by following evidence‑based policies and reporting safety variances.
• Promote professional pride in daily interactions with staff, patients and others.
• Pursue ongoing learning activities to develop clinical and professional skills.
• Mentor peers and subordinates to support learning and practice improvement.
• Address employee problems, complaints or disputes as a first‑level supervisor.
• Participate in on‑call duties as required.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• RN licensure from the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit until licensure is obtained.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Magnet RN positions require BSN or higher within 3 years of placement.
• Completion of a Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
• CPR certification – American Heart Association Basic Life Support (Mandatory within 30 days of hire).
• Good standing with Medicare, Medicaid and other federal and state programs (not excluded).
• Compliance with additional unit‑based plan requirements.
