RWJBarnabas Health seeks an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a night shift on the Surgical Unit-II at the Main Hospital in New Brunswick. The role requires NJ RN license, BLS, ACLS, and 2+ years in Surgical/Med-Surg settings, with ADN required and BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing and current BLS certification.
• ACLS certification required.
• At least 2 years of Surgical or Med/Surge RN experience.
• Associate’s degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) like EPIC.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and recognize clinical changes.
• Provide safe, evidence-based medications and hands-on care.
• Partner with physicians and advanced providers for coordinated care decisions.
• Educate patients and families to support informed care decisions.
• Document accurately in the EMR to ensure continuity of care.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary rounds and team communication.

Our 33-bed medical-surgical unit cares for a diverse and complex patient population, specializing in trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and GI surgery. We also have 10 intermediate-care beds, along with telemetry and medical patients, creating a fast-paced environment with endless opportunities to learn and grow. We are an evidence-based, education-focused unit where nurses are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and have a voice in how we practice. We believe some of the best improvements come directly from the people at the bedside, and we work together to turn good ideas into practice.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. An Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification and at least 2 years of Surgical or Med/Surge RN experience are required. An Associate’s degree in Nursing is also required. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is strongly preferred, as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position is Night Shift, Per Diem.
