Job summary

Memorial Health in Illinois seeks a Registered Nurse - Surgery to deliver evidence-based nursing care for surgical patients from pre-op to recovery. You will apply the nursing process, ensure age-appropriate care and participate in research as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
• Maintain current Healthcare Provider certification.
• Maintain current Provider ACLS certification (required within 12 months of hire).
• Maintain Provider for PEARS certification (required within 12 months of hire).
• BSN preferred.
• Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels based on RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Works with the surgical team to provide care before, during and after a surgical procedure.
• Completes assessment of the patient’s condition and develops an individual plan of care.
• Provides direct patient care in pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods.
• Evaluates outcomes and adjusts nursing care to ensure optimal patient care.
• Teaches and supervises nursing acts delegated to others and monitors care of team members.
• Promotes patient education and involves patient and caregivers in health goals.
• Participates in quality assessment activities and chart reviews.
• Ensures the department is survey-ready at all times.

The Registered Nurse-Surgery

will be responsible for delegation, supervision, and provision of evidence-based nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age appropriate patient care. Implements evidence-based findings into practice and participates in research as appropriate.

Licensure/Certification/Registry

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
• Maintain current Healthcare Provider certification.
• Maintain current Provider ACLS certification (required within 12 months of hire).
• Maintain Provider for PEARS certification (required within 12 months of hire).

Experience

• Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows (12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder):
• Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 0-12 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid. BSN preferred.
• Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 13-24 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred.
• Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN required.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Attends all hospital/nurse manager specified mandatory in-services.
• Maintains competencies as identified in unit specific requirements.
• Completion of self-evaluation. It is the incumbent's responsibility to submit to the nurse manager at annual evaluation time documentation to validate annual credentialing requirements.
