Job summary

Frye Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical-Surgical unit. The role supports patient care excellence with 40-hour weeks, day shifts, and on-call nights. Join a team dedicated to high-quality outcomes and continuous improvement.

Applicants must hold a current state RN license; BLS is required, ACLS and PALS are also required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate patient assessments and identify needs.
  • Initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Provide care appropriate to patient condition and age.
  • Document care timely and accurately.
  • Develop and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient.
  • Perform timely and accurate QA assessments.
  • Provide direct patient care on the Medical-Surgical unit using the nursing process.
  • Communicate effectively with the care team and patient/family to support safe outcomes.
  • Report to the Director or Manager of Department.

Variable hours with on call nights

How You Will Contribute
  • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
  • Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
  • Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
  • Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

Provides direct patient care on the Medical-Surgical unit using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Communicates effectively with the care team and the patient/family to support safe, high-quality outcomes. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.

Essential Functions
  • Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
  • Documents patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, psychosocial/spiritual support).
  • Assesses learning needs and delivers age/culture-appropriate patient/family education.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Participates in performance improvement and required continuing education.
  • Provides quality patient care and works other shifts/units as needed; may take on-call assignments.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Pre and Post operative care of patients

Patient Populations Served: Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult. Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record. Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be present. Physical Requirements (typical): Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, keyboard entry, and repetitive hand/arm movements; occasional sitting, squatting, and kneeling; rare running or climbing. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards including blood/body fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
