Job summary

Buckner Retirement Services Community: Calder Woods in Beaumont, TX, seeks a Registered Nurse to implement unit goals, coordinate resident care and supervise staff while delivering hands-on nursing to residents. This on-site role requires Texas RN licensure and experience in long-term care.

You will work with the DON, Activity Director, and nursing aides to provide quality care and ensure compliance with care plans.

Qualifications

• Must hold and maintain current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Experience in long-term care preferred.
• Ability to understand and carry out complex instructions.
• Proficient English reading/writing/speaking.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the individual service plan is followed; administers or supervises treatments prescribed by physician.
• Make meaningful rounds with residents and physicians; document visits.
• Administer injections; perform in-house testing; take vitals.
• Document acute episodes or significant changes in resident status.
• Supervise aides; assign duties and activities.
• Coordinate with Activity Director, DON, and aides on activities program.
• Participate in staff meetings and meet with DON as needed.
• Receive or place calls to physicians and follow through with orders.
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications; manage meds and refills.
• Monitor medication room and storage.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our community committed to delivering outstanding care to our residents. As a Registered Nurse , you are responsible for the implementation of the goals and objectives of the unit through coordinating resident care management and staff direction and by providing direct nursing care to residents.

What you’ll do:

• Ensure that the individual service plan in followed; administers or supervises treatments prescribed by physician.
• Make meaningful rounds of all residents, utilizing service plans; make rounds with physicians and records visits on charts.
• Administer all intramuscular, sub-cutaneous injections; perform all in-house testing procedures; take and record vital signs.
• Document acute episodes or significant changes in resident status.
• Supervise aides in the performance of their duties by monitoring their work; assign aides to residents – specifying break times and special duties to be completed, including activities.
• Work with Activity Director, DON, and Nurse Aides in carrying out the activities program.
• Meet with DON as needed and participate in staff meetings to keep staff performing at optimum level.
• Receive or place calls to physicians and follow through with physician’s orders.
• Handle the preparation and administration of prescribed medications.
• Order all new medications and refills; administer all medications and chart same.
• Monitor condition of medication room, cart, and refrigerator.

What you’ll bring:

• Requires basic understanding of a specialized area of knowledge normally acquired through four years of high school, plus two to three years of college or vocational school and appropriate license/certification. Previous experience in long term care preferred.
• Requires ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must hold and maintain current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse. Must complete and/or meet training, certification required by Buckner and the State of Texas.
• Requires proficient working knowledge of safe nursing theory and practice, including acceptable knowledge and skills related to drugs, biological, physical, social, and medical sciences, and their application required. Working knowledge of infection control, universal precautions and OSHA standards required.
• Proficient working knowledge of principles and methods involved in in-service instruction of nursing and auxiliary personnel, in demonstrating techniques and methods of patient-care services, and in instruction of patient’s needs required. Professional aptitude and comprehension of medical diagnoses, procedures, and accepted medical treatment patterns required. Proficient working knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to administer medication and treatment as prescribed by physician required. Proficient working knowledge of medications and possible side effects required.
• Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English.
• Ability to recognize differences in sounds, such as voices or noises that are loud and playful instead of angry and combative required.
• Minimum one-year related experience
• Requires ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 20 pounds continuously to move food service and preparation equipment and other objects.
• Requires ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; ability to turn, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, stand and walk over 75% of shift.
