Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis, MN, invites applications for a Registered Nurse on the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital Pediatric Med/Surg unit. You will deliver care to pediatric patients and families across transplant, oncology, GI, and general pediatric services.

The role supports a 24-bed unit with 1:2 to 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios and a nurse residency program for eligible new graduates; scheduling includes 12-hour shifts and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• MN RN License required.
• Basic Life Support (AHA or Red Cross) required.
• 1+ years RN experience; new grads with pediatrics internship/capstone considered.

Responsibilities

• Provides complex care to pediatric patients and families across transplant, oncology, urology, metabolic and GI disorders.
• Performs advanced monitoring and manages infusion therapies.
• Cares for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on the unit.
• Demonstrates ability to safely operate unit equipment.
• Bed capacity: 24; nurse-to-patient ratio 1:2 to 1:4.

Job Overview

Are you looking to make an impact on the physical, emotional and cultural needs of pediatric patients and their families? Join our team as a Registered Nurse at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital! Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we deliver a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation. Our compassionate, innovative approach has repeatedly received national recognition. We are proud to be the oldest academic children’s hospital in Minnesota and the longest-running top-ranked children’s hospital in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.75 FTE (60 hours) every two weeks on the Day/Night shift, 12 hour variable shifts and every third weekend

About this Unit:

The Pediatric Med/Surg Unit has 24 Beds and we deliver care to pediatric patients requiring non-intensive care including specialty populations of pediatric solid organ transplant, GI/GU & metabolic cases. We also provide general medical surgical pediatric care, trauma, orthopedic, ENT, neurosurgical, & other care patients. Our team works together with the entire interdisciplinary team (MDs, NPs, NSTs, OT/PT, Speech, SW, etc) to deliver high quality care.

• Provides complex care to pediatric patient/families preparing for and undergoing blood and marrow transplantation, pediatric hematology-oncology, urology, blood and marrow, metabolic, and gastrointestinal disorders
• Performs advanced monitoring using current technology.
• Manages sophisticated medication and infusion therapies
• Cares for patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit.
• Demonstrates ability to safely and accurately operate unit equipment.
• Bed capacity: 24
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1:2 to 1:4

Required Qualifications

• MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
• 1+ years of RN Experience
• Will Consider New Grad with Internship/Capstone in Pediatrics

Preferred Qualifications

• Acute Care Inpatient RN pediatric med/surg
• Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Trained, Required
• Recent experience in care of transplant patients
• BSN or greater nursing degree
