Job summary

Backus Hospital in Connecticut is seeking a registered nurse to join the E3 telemetry and Progressive Care Unit. You will apply the nursing process, build a synergistic nurse-patient relationship, and deliver high-quality care to diverse patients.

The role requires CT RN licensure, BLS on hire, and ACLS/PALS within 90 days. One year of RN experience is preferred, with residency program experience valued; BKAT or CCRN/PCCN certifications are desirable.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a school of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• One year RN experience and/or Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program; two or more years in this clinical area preferred.
• Current unrestricted RN license in CT.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
• Ability to obtain ACLS and PALS within 90 days of hire.
• Must pass the dysrhythmia test within 3 months of hire.
• Must pass BKAT with 80% or complete a critical care course within 1 year of hire.
• Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred.

E3 is a combined telemetry and Progressive Care Unit containing 25 beds and a team of nursing and healthcare professionals with excellent critical thinking skills and specialized training to provide the highest level of care. Our team has specialty training to care for complex stroke, vascular, neurological and specialty surgery populations as well as intermediate care patients. Combining our skill and use of innovative technology, our patient and family centered care creates an environment that promotes caring and healing.

JOB SUMMARY

Qualifications

• One (1) year RN experience and/or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program. Two (2) or more years of experience in this clinical area preferred.
• Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to pass the dysrhythmia test within 3 months of hire.
• Must be able to pass the BKAT with a score of 80% or complete a critical care course within one (1) year of hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications. Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of Nursing principles and practices. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Communicates effectively in order to provide technical or complex information as well as instruction. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients. Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible and a team player. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Commitment to customer service. Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.
