Job summary

Wellstar Health System in Georgia is seeking an experienced RN to join the OP burn, wound, and hyperbaric program. The nurse provides patient-centered care on a multidisciplinary team, supports HBO therapy, and performs risk assessments during shifts from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Under supervision of the Nurse Manager, you will uphold 5-Star Nursing standards, participate in governance, ensure safety, and mentor staff.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or diploma in nursing required; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license in the state; BLS and other certifications required on hire.
• Experience with Epic and 3M systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care with attention to safety and quality.
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team and document promptly.

Job Summary

The RN OP burn, wound, and hyperbaric clinical nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed team members who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. The RN functions in a clinical environment under the direction of the Nurse Manager and other leaders and is supported through the WellStar shared governance model. Role specific competencies, responsibilities, and practice are guided by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing. The RN assesses and provides care to burn and wound patients throughout the shift as well as assisting the Hyperbaric Tech in the event of an of emergency and performing initial risk assessments.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Provides relationship-based patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g. age, gender, disease, etc) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
• Always partners with the patient and significant other (as appropriate) to keep the patient updated and making the patients goals the focus of the plan of care.
• Practices using current clinical practice standards with a focus on safety and quality.
• When performing duties in outpatient Hyperbaric Unit: Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the Healing Strategies for wound care and the role of HBO therapy, and the different approved clinical indications and treatment protocols for HBO treatment.
• Under the direction of the program manager or designee, appropriately intervenes in the event of an adverse reaction and follows established protocols.
• Demonstrates competence in performing ordered treatments including but not limited to vital signs, blood sugars, and emergency procedures, consistent with existing policies and within his/her scope of practice.

Teamwork and Collaboration

• Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes, but is not limited to diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds, case review, etc); completion of timely documentation and promotion of a respectful, inclusive clinical environment
• Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a manner that is fiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
• Participates and supports performance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders, research and research utilization to promote safe, quality patient care including initiating and/or leading such activities as well as, promoting an inter/intra-disciplinary process and actively supports/participates in shared governance at all levels in the system.

Professional Development

• Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, population specific education.
• Serves as a preceptor and/or or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure that there is a current and future qualified workforce; modeling the professional practice of nursing and creating a healthy work environment

Evidence Based Practice and Research

• Promotes Evidence based practice, nursing research and performance improvement in nursing. Participates in activities such as value analysis as part of the decision-making process in evaluating patient care products.
• Upholds all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goals as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes
• Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice. Consults appropriate experts and uses appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.

Resources and Support

• Proactively plans for the care of patients across the care continuum while giving direct patient care.
• Participates in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes (i.e., decrease in re-admission rates; avoidable days; adverse events; etc).
• Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.

Required Minimum Education

• Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelors Nursing-Preferred

• BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
• RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
• ABLS - Advanced Burn Life Support or ABLS-P Advanced Burn Life Support Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
• PALS - Pediatric Adv Life Support or PALS-I - PALS - Instructor or ARC-PALS - Amer Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-P - PALS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 2 years nursing experience in ambulatory or acute care setting Required

Required Minimum Skills

• Computer/data entry experience.
• Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.
• Ability to use EXCEL, Word and have basic computer operational knowledge.
• Epic and 3M experience preferred.
