Qualifications

• Connecticut RN license required.
• Associate degree in nursing required; BSN preferred.
• Current BLS Provider credential within 60 days of hire.
• 2 years’ operating room nursing experience; scrub experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to assess patients and identify physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and age-related needs to provide individualized care.
• Reviews charts for completeness per documentation protocols before and after surgery.
• Adheres to all relevant health and safety standards.
• Communicates with patients, teammates, and physicians to ensure continuity of care.
• Assesses patients prior to surgery (e.g., NPO status) and alleviates concerns.
• Prepares the operating room for surgery (supplies, implants, instruments, equipment).
• Checks equipment and troubleshoots as needed.
• Assumes responsibility for keeping the operating room sterile.
• Positions and prepares patient on operating table.
• Monitors patient’s vital signs to detect anomalies.
• Adheres to safety standards and precautions.
• Passes medical instruments to the surgeon during operation when scrubbed.

Job Summary

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Promote safe care for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures through evidence based practices as the RN Circulator. Provides support to the surgical team for maintaining a high level of sterility.

Qualifications

• Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Associate Nursing degree required, BSN preferred
• Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Current 2 years’ experience as Operating Room Nurse (scrub is a plus, not required)
• Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques
• Solid understanding of patient safety and precautions
• In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures
