Job Summary

Registered Nurse RN Operating Room PRN at Corpus Christi Medical Center. This full‑time PRN (as needed) position requires flexibility and expertise in the operating room. Corpus Christi Medical Center provides a comprehensive rewards package and supports career growth.

Responsibilities

• Self/preferential scheduling is posted four weeks in advance for predictability.
• Culture of mutual respect and collaboration among all surgical staff.
• Continuous investment in equipment, including surgical instruments, devices and patient positioning to support patient safety and workflow efficiency.
• Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure voice is heard on patient care and workflow improvement.
• On‑call is required during selected non‑business hours.
• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education regarding the procedure and peri‑operative process.
• Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, pre‑operative medications, and surgical site verification.
• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time‑out, debriefing, and universal protocols, per hospital policy.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care while managing evidence‑based practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team of providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists.
• Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor throughout the shift, and document changes and care provided thoroughly.
• Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow‑up measures.

Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• (RN) Registered Nurse.
• Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
