Position Details

• Title: Registered Nurse – Operating Room
• Scheduled Hours: 11a-11:30pm, Monday-Friday
• Call Requirement: Rotating call; must be within 30 minutes of the hospital

Job Summary

Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create a safe patient environment and the best patient experience. The nurse delivers and coordinates patient-centered care across the continuum, supporting the successful transition of patients to other healthcare systems or their home communities. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures.

The unit features 12 OR suites in the main hospital and 6 state-of-the-art operating rooms in the Outpatient Center for Advanced Care. The surgical services division provides pre- and post-operative care, emphasizing patient and family education and smooth transitions for optimal outcomes. The OR performs all specialty surgeries except transplants, with 24-hour staffing during the week.

Position Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current IL RN license
• BSN preferred; ADN acceptable with commitment to enroll in a BSN program and obtain Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) recognized nursing certification within 2 years of hire or eligibility for certification
• 1 year of OR experience preferred
• Ability to scrub and circulate (a plus)
• Current AHA CPR certification
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts
• Ability to take call if required
• Work environment may include exposure to hazardous conditions and infectious specimens
• Ability to assist in patient evacuation during emergencies
• Capability to lift up to 35 pounds; patient handling equipment to be used for heavier lifts with team assistance
