Cheshire Medical Center features five up‑to‑date operating room suites with a sixth in the labor and delivery department. As a Registered Nurse in the OR, you will provide nursing care to patients from adolescence through the adult life cycle, using age‑related growth and development knowledge to individualize the nursing process and meet the standards of care and practice. The OR environment offers a highly technical setting with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:1, emphasizing teamwork among an interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and quality care delivery. Expect to work full‑time in 8‑ or 10‑hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with call requirements on evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Provide comprehensive nursing care for surgical patients in a 1:1 nurse‑to‑patient setting, perform pre‑ and post‑operative assessments, administer medications, and support the surgical team in all aspects of patient care. Coordinate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and support staff to ensure seamless operative services.
Opportunities include on‑the‑job training for all procedures, the AORN Perioperative 101 Course, in‑house BLS and ACLS classes, and certification. OR leadership strongly supports specialty nursing certification (CNOR) and participation in the Dartmouth Hitchcock Surgical Technology Training Program, enabling pathways to nursing leadership, education, or advanced practice roles such as nurse anesthetist or nurse practitioner with a surgical focus.
