Employment Details

About the Facility

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation is a nationally recognized leader in inpatient rehabilitation, delivering hospital-level care for patients with complex medical needs. Our Inpatient Acute Rehab Medically Complex Unit specializes in caring for patients recovering from cardiac conditions, cancer‑related diagnoses, and other medically complex illnesses who require intensive rehabilitation with close medical oversight.

About the Role

As an RN in inpatient acute rehab you will provide comprehensive nursing care including patient assessments, care planning, medication administration, and clinical coordination for medically complex patients. You will collaborate closely with LPNs, physicians, and interdisciplinary therapy teams to manage higher‑acuity conditions, support intensive rehabilitation, and drive safe discharge planning.

This unit is ideal for RNs who value clinical autonomy, interdisciplinary teamwork, and caring for medically complex patients in a fast‑paced, hospital‑based rehabilitation environment where you can see meaningful progress in a short period of time.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.
Quality Pillar of Excellence
  • Quality Nursing Care: Responsible for all nursing care provided to patients at Mary Free Bed. Through careful assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical thinking, each RN develops and/or follows a patient‑centered plan of care that aligns with the priorities and plans developed by the attending physician and other disciplines. The RN coordinates care for non‑licensed staff through delegation and follow‑up to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in performance improvement through identification of ways to improve care, reporting unexpected events or medical errors, and reporting near misses. Assist with data collection and documentation audits to support quality improvement measures.
  • Patient Safety: Promote safety for all patients by following applicable department policies and procedures and by identifying and reporting unexpected events and near misses. Communicate safety concerns to the Nursing Leadership Team promptly.

Essential Job Qualifications
  • Licensure: Registered nurse in the state of Michigan.
  • Education: Associate’s degree in nursing is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certifications: Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) required by 3rd anniversary. Mary Free Bed will fund training and certification.
  • Current BLS certification.
Experience
  • Experience as an RN, especially in rehabilitation or acute care, preferred but not required.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, delegation, and leadership skills.
  • Time management, organization, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work under time constraints, handle interruptions, and prioritize tasks effectively.
