Job summary

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical Unit. This full-time day-shift role offers relocation and sign-on bonuses.

The RN provides holistic, patient-centered care, coordinating with the healthcare team to ensure safe outcomes. Requires BSN/ADN with Virginia RN licensure and 1 year of RN experience, preferably in critical care.

Qualifications

• Certification: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
• Licensed for practice in Virginia as an RN or eligible for licensure in Virginia
• 1 year of RN experience, preferably in a critical care setting
• BSN required if ADN obtained must complete BSN within 5 years of start date
• 1-2 years med/surg/units experience is desirable

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient health assessments and interpret data
• Develop individualized plans of care based on assessments
• Deliver patient and family-centered care
• Advocate for patients' rights and coordinate care across teams
• Collaborate with all disciplines to meet patient needs and transitions
• Document care activities per standards and support outcomes evaluation
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and staff education
• May perform additional duties as assigned

The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Determines processes for delivery of care from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
• Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care
• Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues
• Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning
• Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation
• Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care
• Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members
• Communicates effectively, works cooperatively with others, and has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines
• Assists staff to assess patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education
• Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor and delegates patient care activities and coordinates unit activities as needed
• Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery and ensures that the process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration
• Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
• Evaluates clinical and quality outcomes and contributes to performance improvement initiatives
• May perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

Certification - Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)

Licensure - Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license

Experience - 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, for Critical Care units, 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship

Education - Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.

Preferred qualifications:

1-2 years of med/surgical experience
