Job summary

Dartmouth Health seeks a Registered Professional Nurse on the Medical/Surgical Unit to provide comprehensive nursing care across pediatric to geriatric patients, guided by the nursing process and patient rights. You will collaborate with the care team to ensure safe, effective treatment plans.

Minimum requirements include an accredited nursing degree, NH RN license, BCLS at hire and ACLS within 90 days. Per diem shifts and a full benefits package are available.

Responsibilities

  • The Registered Professional Nurse is accountable to meet the complete nursing needs of a defined group of patients using the nursing process and the medical plan of care in accordance with NH Nurse Practice Act and the Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and condition; follow the seven medication rights to reduce errors.
  • Perform patient care with an integrated approach that prioritizes patient safety and reduces healthcare errors; develop and revise plans of care as needed.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and legibly; delegate tasks appropriately and demonstrate unit-specific competencies.

    • The Medical/Surgical Unit Registered Professional Nurse cares for pediatric through geriatric patients.

PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Position Objective:
    • The Registered Professional Nurses is accountable to meet the complete nursing needs of a defined group of patients utilizing the nursing process and the medical plan of care in accordance with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act and the Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Performance Expectation:
    • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
    • Follows theseven medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
    • Performs patient care using an integrated approach that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
    • Ability to formulate an individual plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness.
    • Communicates clinical information appropriately to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Collaborates with all ancillary departments.
    • Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary.
    • Demonstrates an ability to organize and prioritize job function.
    • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
    • Performs physical/psychosocial assessment to collect data: follows the written plan of care, standards, practice guidelines.
    • Utilizes assessment data to identify patient care needs, to include patient education and discharge planning.
    • Recognizes and reports abnormal assessment data and incorporates findings into the plan of care: validates and revises expected outcomes based on assessment.
    • Accurately and legibly documents all patient care activities, including but not limited to, wound assessment, patient care teaching, demonstrated progress toward goals, medication administration, nursing flow sheets and all assessment forms.
    • Delegates tasks to the health care team members appropriately.
    • Demonstrates unit specific competencies.
