Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) at Norfolk General Hospital's Medical Specialties Department in Norfolk, Virginia. Sign‑on bonus up to $20,000 offered for qualified candidates.
The RN is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. Standards of practice include assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Standards of professional performance include ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards required by specific clinical areas. All direct care RN's are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
We are the first in the Sentara System and second in the State of Virginia to win the PRISM Award (Premiere Recognition in the Specialty of Med‑Surg). Our 42‑bed Medical Specialties Unit serves a diverse patient population including CHF, sickle cell, renal failure, vascular, sepsis, COPD, pneumonia, osteomyelitis with surgical interventions, wound care, and other disease processes. The unit has one main nursing station and 7 substations, EPIC integration, and a teamwork model supported by walkie‑talkies. This environment encourages teamwork and support.
• RN Degree required.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90 days of hire.
Prior RN experience preferred.
