Job summary

Wellstar Health System in Georgia is seeking a registered nurse to coordinate procedural and surgical cases, admissions, and bed placements to ensure timely, safe patient flow across units.

You will collaborate with the care team, participate in bedside rounds, and apply evidence-based practice while developing professionally within a nationally recognized health system that values compassion and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing, or Bachelors in Nursing preferred.
  • RN license required (single state) or RN-Compact (multistate).
  • BLS certification required; instructor allowed.
  • Minimum 2 years of hospital nursing experience; Epic and 3M experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate procedural and surgical cases for bed placement accuracy.
  • Coordinate admissions (direct, ED, and inter-hospital transfers).
  • Coordinate unit-to-unit transfers to open beds as needed.
  • Daily communication of census and bed needs to bed meeting members.
  • Use clinical knowledge to determine the right place for the right patient at the right time.
  • Communicate with leadership about census and bed requirements in emergent situations.
  • Perform nursing process with evidence-based practice and individualized care.
  • Collaborate with care managers and other staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Assist with precepting and mentoring for workforce development.
  • Participate in data collection and apply evidence-based practice.

Resources and Support
  • Coordination of all procedural and surgical cases for priority and accuracy of placement.
  • Coordination of all admissions into the hospital i.e. direct admissions, emergency department and hospital to hospital transfers.
  • Coordination of unit to unit transfers to facilitate opening appropriate beds as needed.
  • Daily communication with bed meeting members of current hospital census and bed needs.
  • Ongoing critical thinking and use of clinical knowledge in determining the right place, for the right patient, at the right time
Interdisciplinary Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Evaluation of all procedure and surgical schedules for patients requiring bed assignments pre- and post-procedure and communication of this information to the appropriate unit.
  • Evaluation of all emergency department admission requests for appropriate information and determination of placement.
  • Processing of information from physicians office for accuracy regarding direct admits for proper placement and communication of this information to appropriate unit while collaborating with Patient Flow Leader and patient access services.
  • Notification of Patient Flow Leader regarding questionable admissions responsibility/function/expectation. Facilitating placement of patients in emergent situations.
  • Facilitating placement of patient requiring critical care placement in coordination with the emergency department, rapid response RN, and critical care departments.
  • Accuracy in obtaining information to call in the On-Call Teams for either Cath Lab or CVOR, calling in team, obtaining bed placement.
  • Ongoing communication with leadership regarding hospital census and bed requirements in emergent situations

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence base practice, uses analytical/critical thinking and ensuring that care is individualized; coordinating care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Provides patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g. age, gender, disease, etc) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Practices using current clinical practice standards for guiding decision making

Evidence Based Practice and Research
  • Upholds all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goals as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes.
  • Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice. Consults appropriate experts and uses appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.
Collaboration and Partnership
  • Proactively plans for the care of patients across the continuum of care throughout the patients length of stay.
  • Upholds protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes (i.e., decrease in re-admission rates; avoidable days; adverse events; etc).
  • Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
  • All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
