Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Lactation Support RN (Lactation Specialist) to provide comprehensive lactation consult services in-patient and outpatient settings. The role emphasizes communication, breastfeeding assessment, and education across bedside and classroom environments.

Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours/week, 8 hours day shift, weekends and holidays per unit rotation.

• The Lactation Support RN (Lactation Specialist) provides comprehensive, individualized In-patient lactation consult services to mothers and babies at Women & Babies Hospital as well as babies in the LGH Pediatric Unit. Lactation Consultants (Certified) also provide outpatient consultative services to mothers and babies in our community. The ideal candidate exemplifies expertise in communication, has excellent breastfeeding assessment skills, a desire to educate both at the bedside as well as in classroom settings and possesses a high level of personal accountability.
• RN licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN or higher level nursing degree is required.
• Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
• CPR Certification - American Heart Association AHA Basic Life Support, formerly Healthcare Provider AHA Heart Saver courses for CPR are not accepted required within 30 days of hire.
• A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.
• As outlined in unit based Plan for Provision of Care.

Credentials

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
• Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice Labor & Delivery RN's are required to obtain their RNC-OB or C-EFM within 3 years of hire into the position. Lactation Support RNs are required to obtain their IBCLC Certification within 2 years of hire into the position.

Education or Equivalent Experience
