Job summary

Mercy Health in Youngstown, OH is seeking a Progressive Care (Step down) Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

The RN will provide high-quality care for cardiac and respiratory patients on the 6 West Intermediate unit, work across Med-Surg and ICU interfaces, and develop care plans to improve outcomes. Responsibilities include assessment, care coordination, medication administration, and contributing to a safe therapeutic environment.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred but not required.
• Current RN license in the state.
• ACLS within 6 months of hire; BLS required or preferred at hire.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments and develop care plans.
• Administer medications safely following policies.
• Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in quality improvement.

Education

Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred, not required)

• No trachs/Vent patients
• 1:4 days with the potential 1:5 if needed
• 1:5 nights with the potential of 1:6 in certain circumstances
• Cardiac drips
• High flow O2 (bipap, avaps, airvo)
• True intermediate/step down patients. Diverse patients.
• Access temporary dialysis lines
• New Graduate RNs welcome to apply

Diverse intermediate unit. Seeing an array of patients, mostly cardiac and respiratory illness. Cardiac cath recovery as well as preparation for open heart surgery.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care (Step down) – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital

Job Summary:

The Progressive Care (Step down) Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by:

• Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
• Acting as the service line between Med-Surg and ICU units
• Determining the priority of the patient’s problems and needs
• Developing and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
• Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment

Essential Functions:

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
• Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness
• Serves as point of contact for patients’ care coordination throughout hospital departments
• Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department
• Administer medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and the organization’s policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned

Education:

• Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred, not required)

Certifications:

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care, ACLS required within 6 months of hire)
