Job summary

Texas Children's Hospital West Campus is seeking a Pediatric Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) to join a fast-paced hospital environment. You will assess, plan, educate, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate, family-centered care across multiple pediatric units and critical care areas.

Shifts available: Nights 7p-7a. You will float to ICUs, Acute Care, PACU, IR, and ER, requiring flexible, collaborative clinical skills and strong communication with families and care teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent enrolled in BSN program required or agreement for BSN equivalency.
  • 9 months nursing experience (minimum).
  • RN license by Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • CPR – Basic Life Support (AHA).
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents patient/family assessments across biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs.
  • Analyzes patient status, anticipates problems, and updates care plans accordingly.
  • Communicates changes to the care team and documents in the medical record.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and care conferences, with proper documentation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, associate’s degree, or technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement or an associate’s degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license required or must be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN with a verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement.
  • 9 months experience in professional nursing (minimum)
  • RN License by Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact
  • CPR – Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
  • The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills, good time and resource management skills, flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of unit-specific equipment, and knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities
  • Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
  • Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, and detects changes in patient status
  • Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient’s condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record
