Job summary

Mercy Health in Ohio is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Operating Room at Howland Outpatient Surgery. The role focuses on delivering high-quality perioperative care across pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases within a collaborative team.

The position requires an accredited nursing degree and active RN licensure. Certifications such as BLS/ACLS/PALS are preferred, with CNOR and SGNA favored. At least 2 years of RN experience in critical care is preferred and OR internship is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS or PALS (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care).
• CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred).
• SGNA (preferred).
• Two years RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred).
• Completion of OR internship program (preferred).
• Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment.
• Observe the surgery and surgical team and maintain a safe environment.
• Manage nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinate with the surgical team.
• Provide pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care and discharge instructions.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (OR) – Howland Outpatient Surgery

Job Summary:

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by:

• Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
• Determining the priority of the patient’s problems and needs
• Implementing clinical nursing interventions to acute, critical patients that require intensive medical care
• Developing and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
• Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment

Essential Functions:

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment
• Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
• Responsible for managing the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinating the needs of the surgical team with other care providers
• Provides pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions
• Other duties as assigned

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing

Certifications:

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
• CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred, not required)
• SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred, not required)

Experience:

• Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required)
• Completion of OR internship program (preferred, not required)

Training:

• Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)
