Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide individualized, high-quality nursing care to patients of all ages. You will work as part of a team, coordinating care at admission, transfer, and discharge with a focus on safety and patient comfort.

The role involves 3 rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends, with shift differentials. Relocation and sign-on bonus up to $20,000 are available as part of our offer.

Qualifications

• Current Iowa RN licensure and active-state nursing license.
• BLS certification to be completed within six weeks of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter training within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
• Performs safe patient handling and monitors patient status.
• Delivers care following Nurse Practice Act and Mercy policies.
• Directs and coordinates care with healthcare personnel during admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Responds to educational and emotional needs of patients and families.

As a RN at MercyOne, you will p rovide individualized, high-quality nursing care to patients of all ages. Uses a team approach to delegate and coordinate patient care at admission, transfer, and discharge. Independently delivers nursing care using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, ethical principles, and professional judgment. Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

• Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
• Practices safe patient handling techniques.
• Continues to evaluate assigned patients and provides ongoing treatment.
• Anticipates, identifies , and responds to educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guides and directs healthcare personnel ( i.e. Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices). Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms whenever available to maximize patient safety.
• Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).

Schedule:

• 36 hours/week
• 3, 12-hour shifts
• Rotating shifts: 3 weeks of nights and 3 weeks of days per 6-week cycle. OR straight nights
• $7 differential for all shifts, just being part of our Resource Pool team!
• $5 differential for Night Shifts
• $4 differential for Weekend Shifts
• Differentials do stack!

General Requirements:

• Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
