Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital in Austin is seeking an Inpatient Staff Nurse to provide high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced environment. You will assess, plan, educate, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate care that centers on families and cost-effective practices.

Duties include collecting patient data and vital signs, preparing for examinations, assisting providers, administering medications and immunizations, documenting in the medical record, coordinating referrals, and triaging

Qualifications

  • RN license in Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or enrollment in BSN/MSN program.
  • Minimum 9 months of professional nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient data including vital signs and demographics.
  • Document vital signs, height/weight, and visit reason.
  • Prepare patients for examinations per site protocol.
  • Assist providers during treatments and testing.
  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed.
  • Document medication administration in the medical record.
  • Coordinate referrals and triage patient concerns.
  • Provide patient and family education as instructed.
  • Demonstrate service philosophies to patients and families.
  • Respiratory fit testing required for safety.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol
  • Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight and reason for visit
  • Prepares patient for examination per site protocol
  • Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of site
  • Administers medication and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol
  • Documents administration of medication and immunizations in the medical record per site protocol
  • Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol
  • Documents such education in the medical record
  • Coordinates referrals
  • Triages presenting patient complaint per site protocol
  • Verifies provider order and patient per site protocol
  • Collects and processes specimen according to manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique
  • Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families
  • As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Skills & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or one of the following:
  • Associate degree in nursing/related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement
  • Technical Diploma in Nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement
  • Must be currently enrolled in A Nursing Bridge Program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
  • RN License – Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association required
  • 9 Months Professional Nursing Experience Required
