Job Summary

The primary purpose of your job is to provide nursing services in Dialysis in accordance with the current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the CEO, Director of Physician Services, CNE and practice providers.

Qualifications
  • Assesses physical, psychological and social dimensions of the patient:
  • Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries and disease and uses available resources in assessment process.
  • Provides written assessment of patient on admission.
  • Documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness and complications and summarizes information on discharge.
  • Summarizes assessment data and makes a nursing care plan which is written and communicated to other patient care providers.
  • Implements plan of care:
  • Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and nursing orders in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Intervenes with proper technique, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients.
  • Functions within the limits of State Nurse Practice Act, hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
  • Patient and family instruction/education and discharge planning:
  • Assesses, plans and implements instruction for patient and family needs.
  • Communicates such plan via Bedside Shift Report.
  • Provides verbal and written instructions including medication and side effects.
  • Professional leadership:
  • Reports patient care or management problems to Clinical Coordinator and /or supervisor when necessary and investigates and intervenes in problem situations reporting appropriate information.
  • Makes outpatient assignment based on acuity and staff qualifications and experience.
  • Coordinates unit routines, providing guidance to staff, orienting new staff, assuring presence and working order of emergency equipment.
  • Unit requirements: Acute care- MED/SURG:
  • Demonstrates ability to care for patients in various age group, pediatrics to geriatrics.
  • Demonstrates ability to care for surgical patients.
  • Demonstrates ability to care for medical patients.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide safe environment for short-term psychiatric patients.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and safe use of medications specific to the acute care patient population.
  • Personal growth and development:
  • Identifies own learning needs and seeks opportunities for self growth, using and sharing skills gained through continuing education classes.
  • Has completed annual nursing competencies.
  • Has attended annual mandatory day.
  • Age specific competency:
  • Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of patients, recognizing a patient's psychological development and modifies approaches for patients.

Experience
  • ED: 3 years of prior, related ED experience preferred ED: TNCC & NRP preferred ED: CPI/AVADE/MOAB training preferred Med/Surg, Infusion, LDRP: 1 year of prior, related medical/surgical experience preferred NCMG: minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience preferred Perioperative: at least 2 years of prior perioperative experience Dialysis: more than 1 year of experience in a medical/surgical unit required Dialysis: critical care experience preferred Dialysis: ACLS preferred Infusion: Strong IV skills or certification LDRP: at least 2 years of prior labor and delivery experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • ED: Ability to coordinate and supervise the assignment of staff, makes assignments and checks for completion of job duties and responsibilities. Ability to tactfully communicate with both internal and external customers. Ability to use a telephone, fax, copier, and all other equipment associated with nursing practice. Ability to stand/walk 90% of the shift, frequent pushing, climbing, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting and helping lift objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds. Ability to use hands, fingers, arms and wrists, hearing, smell, and verbal skills are required in order to perform job duties. Color vision is required for perceiving changes in skin color and using color-coded tubing lines Utilize face shields/mask, gloves, protective clothing, safety glasses, and other protection associated with the care of patients. BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire. AHA & ARC accepted. ACLS and PALS certification required prior to completion of orientation or within 6 months of hire, whichever occurs first.
  • Med/Surg: Tactfully communicate with both internal and external customers. Use a telephone, fax, copier, radio, and all other equipment associated with nursing practice.   • NCMG: Knowledge of basic nursing principles. Good computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, electronic medical record systems, and medical office practice applications. Effective analytical skills. Demonstrated strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and management skills. Ability to tactfully communicate with both internal and external customers. Ability to use fingers and hands to operate all department-related equipment as described on the Department checklist. Additionally, must use, (who has a beeper still?) telephone, calculator, fax, copier, scanner, and other related office equipment. Ability to frequently bend, using back and knees. Ability to stand and walk 40 sit 60 of the time. Ability to frequently climb, bend, reach, stoop, squat, help lift objects from five to fifty pounds and move patients via wheelchair or stretcher.
