Job summary

The CCU at UVA Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver compassionate, high-acuity cardiovascular care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You will care for patients with heart failure, STEMI, arrhythmias, and post-cardiac arrest recovery while collaborating with physicians, APRNs, respiratory therapists, and fellow nurses.

Relocation assistance may be available. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2, with 1:1 for the most critically ill.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• BSN required within 5 years of hire.
• Licensed to practice as an RN in Virginia; AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
• 1 year of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care for critically ill cardiac patients.
• Monitor and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
• Provide care using advanced therapies and technologies (Impella, IABP, LVAD, ventilator support, CRRT).
• Collaborate with physicians, APPs, respiratory therapists, and fellow nurses to coordinate care.

The Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), you will provide compassionate, expert care for patients experiencing a wide range of complex cardiovascular conditions. This is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment where nurses play a vital role in patient outcomes while working closely with multidisciplinary teams across the health system.

Patients cared for in the CCU may include those experiencing heart failure exacerbations, coronary artery disease, STEMI, pulmonary hypertension, cardiogenic shock, heart blocks, post-cardiac arrest recovery, and other critical cardiac conditions.

In this role, you will:

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care for critically ill cardiac patients.
• Monitor, assess, and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
• Care for patients requiring advanced therapies and technologies, including Impella devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, LVADs, ventilator support, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
• Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and fellow nurses to coordinate care.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure evidence-based clinical practice.
• Participate in a culture where team members actively support one another and prioritize outstanding patient care.

With typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 and, in some cases, 1:1 for the most critically ill patients , you'll have the opportunity to provide focused, high-quality care. A dedicated charge nurse without a patient assignment serves as an additional resource and support for the team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
