Job summary

UC Health, an adult academic health system serving Greater Cincinnati, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN-CN1) for the Neuroscience Step Down Unit on the night shift. As part of University of Cincinnati Medical Center, you will deliver evidence-based patient care and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Associate’s degree, the minimum required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Current OH RN License.
  • Current BLS/ACLS/PALS.
  • 1 Year ICU or Critical Care Co-op experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises, and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in collaboration with the healthcare team and family.
  • Communicates plan of care to all levels of associates involved in the patient’s care and sets priorities based on assessment.
  • Gives clear treatment instructions to patients/family and involves family in assessment and continuing care.
  • Addresses behavioral health needs and cultural/religious considerations as applicable to the patient.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork on the unit.
  • Nursing process is documented accurately and per hospital policy.
  • Mentors new staff and supports ongoing professional development on the unit.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.

  • Prepares, implements evaluates, revises, and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time-frame indicated by the unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates the ability to establish priorities of care based on the patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs, or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • The nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
