Advocate Health is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) for St. Luke’s MAIN OR in Milwaukee, WI. The OR team supports Neuro/ENT, General, and orthopedics with a strong emphasis on patient safety and collaborative care.

The role emphasizes hands-on perioperative nursing, close collaboration with surgeons and anesthesia teams, and ongoing orientation based on AORN standards. Weekend shifts and on-call duties are required.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license issued by the state.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• 1–2 years OR experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care in the operating room.
• Collaborate with surgeons, residents, APPs, anesthesiologists, technologists and assistants to ensure patient safety.
• Participate in OR education activities and simulations to maintain competency.
• May include didactic and digital education, lab experiences, practice skills, and role playing.
• Work weekends/holidays and take call as needed.
• Assist in evacuation of patients during emergencies and handle potentially infectious materials.
• Ensure proper patient lifting techniques and use of equipment for patient handling.

• Main operating room services - Neuro/ENT, General, and orthopedics

What you will do

Are you looking for an environment that will challenge your knowledge and skills surrounding surgical nursing in the Operating Room?

You are the eyes, the ears, and the voice of the patient during one of the most vulnerable times of a person’s healthcare journey. The OR is highly interdependent, and team based. You will work closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, technologists and assistants to provide superior surgical outcomes. Your orientation and practice environment is rooted in the specialty standards and educational programs of the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN). Your extensive RN orientation includes full training in the circulator role.

• Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster
• Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients
• Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by‑case basis.

What we are looking for:

• Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• 1-2 years OR experience needed
