Job summary

Avera Cancer Institute-Yankton in Yankton, SD is seeking a part-time RN to deliver nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role involves reviewing physician prescriptions, coordinating with the healthcare team, and providing physical, emotional, and spiritual support to patients and families.

You will develop care plans, educate patients and families about conditions and medications, document care, and ensure a safe, infection-controlled environment.

Qualifications

• RN license in the state of practice is required.
• Oncology-specific provider cards (ONS Fundamentals and Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy) within required timeframes.
• Experience in patient-centered oncology care is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and communicating the nursing plan to the health care team.
• Develops nursing care plans by assessing histories, conditions, and needs; and setting objectives and interventions.
• Educates patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
• Evaluates patient care by monitoring outcomes and adjusting plans as needed.
• Maintains a safe, infection-controlled care environment and proper medication handling.
• Documents patient care services in charts and records.
• Keeps equipment and supplies ready and operational, performing preventative maintenance.

A Brief Overview

Delivers nursing care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives.

• Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians.
• Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables.
• Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources.
• Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care standards; reviewing patient records; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives; modifying nursing care plan.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs.
• Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire and
• ONS Fundamentals Provider Card - Oncology Nursing Society within 60 Days or
• ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card - Oncology Nursing Society within 60 Days and
• ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card - Oncology Nursing Society upon expiration of ONS Fundamentals Provider Card or within 2 years of hire--whichever is later

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Previous Oncology experience
