Qualifications

  • Compliance with annual validations of clinical performance competencies.
  • For Home Health, ability to operate a personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and active auto insurance.
  • For Banner Behavioral Health positions, Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and related requirements.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse within our Cardiac Cath Lab at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, AZ, you will join a dynamic team of RNs, Physicians, and Special Procedure Technologists (ARRT). The Cath Lab RN works in conjunction with the Physician and Specialty Tech to perform a wide variety of cardiac procedures—including diagnostic, structural, and electrophysiology—serving pediatric and adult patients.

Shift Details
  • Full-Time: 3 12's Monday – Friday
  • Day Shift: 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Required Night, Holiday, and Weekend Call; must live within 30 minutes of the facility for call requirement

Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. It is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan care appropriate to the patient's physical and developmental age.

Core Functions
  1. Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical exam with patient/family, ensures completion within appropriate timeframe, reviews team-provided information, diagnostics, and laboratory data, reports abnormal results to physician(s) and relevant caregivers, and completes assessment and reassessments per patient need and policy.
  2. Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and patient/family and health team input. Initiates care plans based on patient-specific needs, sets realistic, measurable goals with patient/family, and considers all necessary dimensions of care. Plans care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, revises the plan as patient status changes.
  3. Implements the plan through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health team activities. Provides care per physician orders and the nursing plan, complying with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements; delegates appropriately and supervises care delivered by other licensed nurses and personnel.
  4. Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revises the plan as needed, assesses progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with team members, and evaluates teaching effectiveness.
  5. Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely, and aligned with policy, reflecting objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response. Notes physician orders accurately and promptly.
  6. Provides care based on best evidence, may participate in research activities within clinical practice, participates in unit or facility shared leadership, and engages in education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  7. Contributes to society by engaging in activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care; participates in national nursing quality indicator improvement and may engage in professional organizations.
  8. In some roles, this position may supervise staff and workflow of the department.
  9. Interacts with all levels of staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, including community providers and agencies. Provides spiritual support via clergy when appropriate, synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family response to health status changes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the state of practice.
  • BLS certification required; additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
  • Minimum one year experience in an acute care hospital setting, including work within the past 12 months as an RN in the specialty area.
  • Compliance with annual validations of clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work.
  • For Home Health, ability to operate a personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and active auto insurance.
  • For certain Banner Behavioral Health positions, possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit at hire and maintenance throughout employment, with Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card required for specific inpatient units.
