Advocate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cath Lab per diem at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL. The RN will provide patient-centered care, coordinate nursing activities across the continuum, and support safe, high‑quality outcomes in a fast-paced cath lab setting.

Good Shepherd Hospital Barrington, IL Registered Nurse (RN) Cath Lab - Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) – Cath Lab Per Diem - Work on an 'as needed' basis! Scheduled Hours - Cath Lab hours of operation are 07:00-17:30 Monday-Friday with on-call after normal working hours. For on-call required to live within 30 minutes of hospital. Good Shepherd Cath Lab has 4 Labs: 1 dedicated IR space, 1 dedicated Cath Lab, 1 EP room, and 1 Hybrid room. We have a Robust structural heard and electrophysiology program!
Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience. The nurse delivers and coordinates patient-centered care across the continuum to support the successful transition of patients to other healthcare delivery systems or their home communities. The registered nurse is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN license BSN preferred, ADN acceptable with agreement for nurses with less than 12 months of experience to enroll in BSN completion program to be completed in four years. Nurses with more than 12 months experience in direct patient care must possess a BSN or obtain either BSN or Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) recognized nursing certification within one year of the date of hire or becoming eligible to sit for certification, whichever is later. Current AHA CPR Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing Certain positions may need to take call Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case‑by‑case basis.
Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions. Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines. Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de‑escalation, if needed. May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing may be required. Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
