Job summary

The Avera Behavioral Health Center-Sioux Falls is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) on a PRN basis. You will deliver nursing care, explain care plans to patients and families, and support physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include reviewing physician prescriptions, coordinating with the health care team, developing nursing care plans, and documenting care in patient records.

Qualifications

  • RN license in the state of practice is required.
  • 1–3 years of clinical experience preferred in a healthcare setting.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions with adequate vision and communication skills.
  • Experience meeting safety, infection-control, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review physician prescriptions and communicate the nursing care plan to the health care team.
  • Coordinate care with other providers and support patients and families.
  • Develop nursing care plans, document conditions, objectives, and interventions.
  • Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in patient records and ensure care standards.

Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $32.50 - $48.50

A Brief Overview

Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives.

What you will do

Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians.

Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables.

Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources.

Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care standards; reviewing patient records; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives; modifying nursing care plan.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.

Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.

Maintains competence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.
