Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and continuous monitoring of complex cardiac conditions.
  • Administer medications and manage advanced therapies including LVAD and prostacyclin drips for pulmonary hypertension.
  • Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making and care planning.
  • Provide patient and discharge education to support long-term outcomes and care continuity.
  • Apply time-management and rhythm interpretation skills to prioritize care in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

4 West Acute Cardiology is a 30-bed acute care unit within UVA Health’s Heart and Vascular service line, delivering care to patients stepping down from the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiovascular ICU, as well as those requiring specialized cardiac therapies.

Join a collaborative, high-performing team on 4 West Acute Cardiology, where you will care for patients transitioning from intensive cardiac environments while developing in-demand skills in advanced therapies. This is an ideal opportunity for nurses seeking to deepen their cardiovascular experience in a supportive, academically driven environment.

In this role, you will balance autonomy with interdisciplinary collaboration in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. A typical shift includes:

  • Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and continuous monitoring of complex cardiac conditions
  • Administering medications and managing advanced therapies, including LVAD patients and prostacyclin drips for pulmonary hypertension
  • Actively participating in daily interdisciplinary rounds, contributing to clinical decision-making and care planning
  • Providing patient and discharge education to support long-term outcomes and care continuity
  • Applying strong time management and rhythm interpretation skills to prioritize care in a dynamic setting

Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
