Through the AOC Crisis Program, our team delivers 24/7 crisis access, rapid screening and triage, and least-restrictive, whole-person care built on a "No Wrong Door" approach — so that however someone reaches us, they're connected to the right level of support, right away. POSITION SUMMARY

As a Registered Nurse with the AOC Crisis Program, you'll be a vital clinical presence for individuals and families navigating a mental health or substance use crisis. You'll provide health literacy counseling, medication administration, and hands-on nursing support that helps clients understand and manage their care — working alongside QMHPs, therapists, and prescribers to stabilize clients in crisis and connect them to ongoing treatment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Health Literacy Counseling & Client Education
  • Educate clients about their health conditions, treatment plans, and medication regimens to build understanding and adherence, including during and after a crisis episode.
  • Explain the benefits, potential side effects, and proper use of prescribed medications in clear, non-technical language.
  • Lead one-on-one and group education sessions that build health literacy and self-management skills.
  • Help clients ask questions and advocate for their own health needs.
Medication Management
  • Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for adverse reactions or side effects.
  • Support medication adherence with practical, easy-to-follow strategies clients can use at home.
  • Collaborate with physicians and pharmacists to ensure safe, effective medication management.
Crisis & Care Coordination
  • Work closely with the crisis team — QMHPs, therapists, and case managers — to coordinate care during and after a client's crisis contact.
  • Help clients navigate the healthcare system and connect with the right level of ongoing support.
  • Ensure continuity of care by communicating clearly with every member of the treatment team.
Documentation & Professional Development
  • Maintain accurate, timely client records, including education sessions, medication administration, and progress notes.
  • Prepare documentation for treatment team meetings, case reviews, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in ongoing training and supervision to stay current on crisis care best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
Licensure
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
Experience
  • At least one year of clinical experience involving medication management and client education preferred; crisis or behavioral health experience is a plus.
Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to stay calm and clear during high-stress moments.
  • Ability to educate clients using plain, non-technical language.
  • Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary crisis team.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, cultural competence, and client-centered care.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work spans a range of settings — client homes, foster homes, outpatient clinics, community health centers, and inpatient facilities.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours depending on client and crisis-response needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
