CHRISTUS Health in Louisiana is seeking a Registered Nurse to assess patients, plan care, and provide high-quality nursing services. The role directs LVN/LPNs and other staff, and may serve as charge nurse for the unit, with care across adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

The position requires a BSN (preferred), 6 months to 1 year RN/GN experience, and active BLS certification with RN licensure in the state or a compact license. Multiple shifts, full-time status are available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • Six months to one year of experience as a licensed RN or holder of an active GN permit.
  • BLS required; RN license in state of employment or compact; Graduate Nurse Permit.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a comprehensive nursing care plan addressing needs identified through nursing assessment.
  • Prepares nursing elements of the interdisciplinary care plan prior to the initial team conference.
  • Reviews and updates nursing care plan and collaborates with team members as changes occur.
  • Implements patient care as planned in nursing care plan and interdisciplinary care plan.
  • Sets priorities based on patient acuity and needs.
  • Provides safe, therapeutic care and seeks resources when appropriate.
  • Documents procedures accurately and according to policy.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and progress toward goals with the team.
  • Completes nursing progress notes and flow sheets daily.
  • Evaluates education needs of patient and family and documents responses.
  • Teaches patients and families, adapts resources to education needs.
  • Acts as role model for students and team members and as preceptor to orientees.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff by sharing knowledge and experience.

Provides direction and supervision to LVN/LPNs, nursing assistants, unit secretaries, and other clinical/clerical associates. By assignment, may function as a charge nurse for the unit. Involves provision of patient care/service to older adolescents, young adults, adults, geriatric and pediatric patients.

  • Encourages direct discussion between staff members when differences occur and seeks assistance to arbitrate differences as needed.
  • Gives and accepts constructive feedback appropriately.
  • Identifies actual and potentially unsafe patient care practices, reports them in the designated manner, and suggests alternatives.
