Job summary

NaphCare is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at ASPC Douglas in Douglas, AZ. As a Correctional RN, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide essential care in a secure environment where safety is paramount.

Responsibilities include physical assessments, medication administration, chronic disease management, and urgent response to emergencies. New grads are encouraged to apply as we offer training in correctional healthcare.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the state.
  • Active BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred).
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, safety standards, infectious disease management, and health care laws/regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
  • Pass the facility's background check and drug screening.

  • Educate patients on preventative care and healthy lifestyles.
  • Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working with correctional officers.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and report relevant information.

Job description

NaphCare is hiring a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team of medical professionals at ASPC Douglas, located in Douglas, AZ. As a Correctional Registered Nurse (RN), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to individuals in residence within a controlled environment where security is top priority. The role offers engaging duties including performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
  • Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories.
  • Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and well‑being.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report any relevant information.
Qualifications
  • Holds a current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state.
  • Possesses an active BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred).
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and compliance with a Code of Conduct and all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures and legal requirements.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities

Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
