Centrum Surgery Center in San Antonio, TX is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for PreOp/PACU to admit patients and provide specialized nursing care before and after procedures. The role emphasizes teamwork, patient education, and accurate documentation.

The position requires an Associate Degree, completion of an Accredited Surgical First Assist program, at least 4 years of Surgical Technologist experience, and BLS (ACLS required or to be obtained within 90 days).

Qualifications

  • RN licensure required
  • Associate Degree and surgical first assist training required
  • Minimum 4 years as Surgical Technologist with BLS; ACLS preferred or within 90 days of hire

Responsabilités

  • Ensure clean, therapeutic environment for pre-op/post-op/inpatient areas
  • Provide patient instructions as directed by physician/PA
  • Prepare supplies/equipment and maintain readiness for procedures
  • Admit patient and prep for scheduled procedures
  • Perform pre-op assessments and communicate discharge needs
  • Explain procedures to reduce patient anxiety
  • Monitor patient status and report changes to physician/anesthesiologist
  • Ensure medical records contain consent, tests and H&P
  • Document care accurately and timely in medical records
  • Implement orders and maintain HIPAA privacy and confidentiality
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and staff
  • Plan for routine events and manage emergent situations

Centrum Surgery Centeris looking for a full-time Registered Nurse PreOp/PACU to join our team!

SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse PreOp / PACU is responsible for admitting the patient to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the pre-operative and post-operative patient, as well as, developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for the individual patient. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients in the pre-operative, post-operative, observation and inpatient area
  • Provides instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
  • Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
  • Admits the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the scheduled procedure
  • Makes initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient, communicates additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment)
  • Explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety
  • Identifies patient’s physical and mental status
  • Monitors the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist
  • Assures surgical consent, pre-operative test results and History and Physical are in the medical record prior to proposed procedure
  • Performs pre-op and post-op calls to patients
  • Reports any important health history facts to the operating room nurse/medical director
  • Educates patients and family, provide emotional support to patients and family members as necessary
  • Documents patient care delivered, accurately in the medical record
  • Implements doctor’s orders in a timely and accurate manner
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and center employees
  • Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy
  • Plans for routine events and anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluates emergent situations
  • Completes patient care responsibilities in a timely manner with accurate documentation
  • Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy, procedure and HIPAA requirements
  • Follows all safety rules, reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards
  • Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution.
  • Skilled in suturing and saphenous vein harvesting.
  • Basic analytical skills.
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate Degree
  • Completion of an Accredited Surgical First Assist program
  • Four (4) years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • ACLS certified or must be obtain within first 90-days of employment
