Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc. is seeking an experienced perianesthesia nurse in Texas to direct and/or provide professional nursing care across the age spectrum in the Pre- and Post-operative areas. The role may involve acting as Charge nurse and supervising PACU or pre-operative staff as directed by the CNO.

The position requires BLS and renewal every 2 years; ACLS and PALS within 6 months of employment and renewed every 2 years. Willingness to float and take on-call duties is expected.

Qualifications

  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in Texas.
  • BLS certification with renewal every 2 years.
  • ACLS and PALS within 6 months of employment and renewed every 2 years.
  • Ability to cooperate with others and maintain documentation in English.

Responsibilities

  • Direct or provide professional perianesthesia nursing care across age groups in Pre- and Post-operative settings.
  • Possibly serve as Charge nurse by supervising PACU/pre-operative staff as directed by CNO.
  • Float to other patient care areas as needed.
  • Take rotating on-call duties for weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Job description

Job Summary

Directs and/or provides professional perianesthesia nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum under the direction of the CNO. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to direct or provide nursing care in the Pre-Post operative setting. May serve as Charge nurse by providing supervision and guidance to other members of the PACU or pre-operative staff as directed by the CNO. Demonstrates abilities and willingness to float to other patient care areas as needed. Takes call for weekdays, weekends, and holidays as assigned on a rotating basis.

Physical Requirements

May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 500 pounds with assistance. Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well-lit. May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team. Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical schedule.

OSHA Exposure Classification

Job Classification I. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability
  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Texas
  • Must have BLS and renew every 2 years prior to expiration.
  • ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of employment or sooner if covering call or conscious sedation and renew both every 2 years prior to expiration.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement.
  • Previous PACU, ambulatory care, critical care or general nursing experience is preferred.
  • Is aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with them.
