Job summary

UCSF Health BCH Oakland Day Hospital Infusion Center seeks an experienced pediatric infusion nurse to provide safe, therapeutic care using the nursing process. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to support treatments such as chemotherapy, biotherapy, transfusions and hydration, while overseeing care for patients with complex needs.

The role requires strong observation, prioritization, and communication skills, plus flexibility to orient to all UCSF Health locations and to deliver

Qualifications

• Two or more years of pediatric nursing experience with at least 1 year in oncology or two years in other relevant clinical areas.
• One year of outpatient infusion experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
• Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc.
• Ability to function under stress and manage shifting priorities with strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrates leadership to support teamwork, quality patient care and evidence-based practice.
• Willingness to orient to all UCSF Health locations and participate in ongoing professional development.

Job description

BCH Oakland Day Hospital Infusion Center serves the Specialty populations at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. The treatments include but are not limited to apheresis, chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The center consists of 14 beds, and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Medical Assistants, and a Practice Coordinator.

Job Description

This position requires the incumbent to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. Manages patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Recognized as a leader and clinical resource. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and the organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Two (2) or more years of recent pediatric nursing experience with at least 1 year in oncology, or 2 years of other directly relevant clinical experience.
• One (1) year of recent outpatient Infusion experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
• Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc.
• Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure.
• Must be able to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, team work, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management. See also Living Pride Standards.
• Ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that support teamwork, professionalism, high quality patient experience, evidence based clinical practice, or other relevant topics.
• Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff. Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings; contributes to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrates ability to remain current in professional and technical knowledge and apply this to the job; looks for opportunities for continual improvement in patient care, the work environment, and a commitment to lifelong learning in the field of nursing.
• The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) or more years of Pediatric Oncology Nursing experience.
• CPHON Certification or other relevant specialty certification
• Membership in professional organizations is recommended
• PALS

Licenses/Certifications

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
• Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
• Current APHON Biotherapy/Chemotherapy Provider Certification within 6 months of hire date.
