Job summary

Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, is seeking qualified nursing professionals for Per Diem shifts across the Pediatric Emergency Department. The position supports float coverage across units, with shifts posted weekly and a minimum commitment of 36 shifts per year (up to 1560 hours).

The role requires RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/PALS, and a graduate of an approved nursing program with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program (or equivalent experience) and 2 years relevant experience.
  • Registered Nurse licensure is required.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient’s progress towards goals and apply interventions.
  • Promotes health and a safe environment; adheres to nursing standards and guidelines.

JOB SUMMARY

Applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of complex patients in a comprehensive manner. Recognizes complex learning needs and prepares individual teaching plans for patients/families and consistently demonstrates effective patient education to peers. Consistently ensures a comprehensive continuum of care plan in collaboration with the health care team. Demonstrates and role models effective communication and conflict resolution skills. Ensures evidence-based care and continuously monitors patient outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to Board of Nursing standards. Floats across entities to fulfill requirements of the role.

Job Types: Resource Pool working Per Diem hours covering shifts most needed by the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
  • Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient's primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
  • Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Competently handles multiple assignments often simultaneously by prioritizing work into manageable and measurable units. Ability to adapt to changes to patient care and area needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Follows up to assure problems and issues are resolved.
  • Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully search for evidence to answer clinical questions. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
