University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Walnut Creek OR. The role focuses on pediatric perioperative care, requiring PACU or PICU experience and strong pediatric nursing background.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Function as a member of interdisciplinary nursing teams and support care coordination.
  • Carry out established nursing procedures; assist in managing patient care across the care continuum.
  • Maintain knowledge of nursing practice and safety protocols; ensure compassionate, high-quality patient care and service.

Job description

The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Walnut Creek (OR) consists of 2 surgical suites and 1 procedural room. Our primary focus is multidisciplinary team-based approach and staffing.

Services include, but are not limited to: Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Urology, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Dental, General Surgery, and GI

All patient care team members are responsible to meet patient needs, demonstrate willingness to learn new skills, and foster a harmonious work environment in which high quality patient care and customer service is consistently provided. Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner.

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

  • Maintain knowledge and abilities essential for nursing practice.
  • Adhere to the Nurse Practice Act and legal responsibilities.
  • Provide safe and therapeutic care using the nursing process.
  • Function as an active member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams.
  • Carry out established nursing procedures and related duties.
  • Provide nursing care for patients with complex needs under supervision.
  • Assist in managing patient care administered by other nursing team members.
  • Demonstrate service excellence and adhere to Living PRIDE standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of recent PACU or PICU experience as a registered nurse
  • Three (3) years of recent pediatric experience as a registered nurse
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Must be well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and work independently and under pressure.
  • Basic computer keyboard skills and general PC knowledge.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and work independently and under pressure.
  • Required On-Call commitment
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of Critical Care experience as RN (PICU, ED, ICU)
  • BSN Preferred
  • Experience in Ambulatory Surgical Care Center
Licensure/Certifications
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
  • ASPAN certification strongly preferred
