Job summary

Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wisconsin is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This full-time (.8 FTE, 64 hours per pay period) position features varied shifts, and requires call four times in six weeks with weekend call every fifth weekend. A sign-on bonus is eligible.

The unit handles PACU patients from OR, Cath Lab, IR, and Radiology. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care with evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

• An associate degree in nursing is required.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
• Specialty certification is desirable.
• Minimum of three years RN experience in a comparable setting.
• Active Wisconsin and/or Michigan RN license.
• Current BLS; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required depending on department.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
• Work under orders of anesthesia and surgeons.
• Contribute to fast-paced PACU with staff RNs and CNAs.
• Maintain call requirements during week and weekends.

The Registered Nurse is a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the provision of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care provided that incorporates evidence-based practice. A key aspect of the work of Nursing is to continually improve the quality of nursing care by collecting and analyzing data.

Unit Description:

14-bay unit that receives patients from the OR, Cath Lab, IR and Radiology. They specialize in air way and pain management post procedure. This is a fast-paced unit requiring exceptional critical thinking skills along with critical care experience. The team includes RNs and C.N.As. They work under the orders of anesthesia and surgeons. Staff work staggered shifts M-F. Call is required during the week and on weekends.

Experience/Qualifications

• Associate degree in nursing required.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
• Certification in specialty desired.
• Ideally, there is a minimum of three years practicing as an RN in comparative setting.
• Possesses an active Wisconsin and/or Michigan RN nursing license.
• Maintains specialty certification as per department scope of service.
• Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire. (See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Policy).
• Current Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification may be required based on primary department.
