Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, FL is seeking a Registered Nurse to manage individualized, goal-directed nursing care in the surgical services setting. The RN will serve as circulating nurse, assist surgeons and anesthesia, and ensure patient safety throughout all phases of the procedure.

Candidates must hold Florida RN licensure (or eligible compact state), BLS certification, and perioperative experience.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma/certificate in nursing or an Associate degree is required.
  • Associate degree in nursing is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • 1 year perioperative nursing experience or Periop 101 training is preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Florida or eligible compact state on hire.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers certification on hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and verifies patient readiness for surgery, including review of history, allergies, consents, diagnostics, and pre-operative requirements.
  • Develops and documents an individualized plan of care with patient, family, surgeon, anesthesia provider, and perioperative team.
  • Serves as the circulating RN, coordinates sterile field setup, ensures accurate counts, and maintains patient safety throughout all surgical phases.
  • Monitors and evaluates patient response to interventions, anesthesia, and surgery; adjusts plan as needed.
  • Maintains real-time documentation in the EMR to support safety, compliance, and continuity of care.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory, infection prevention, and safety standards (ACHA, CMS, CDC, internal policy).
  • Manages OR supplies, equipment, implants, and devices for readiness and function.
  • Provides technical and clinical support to surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative team.
  • Promotes teamwork and clear communication among perioperative, anesthesia, and ancillary departments.
  • Maintains current clinical knowledge and certifications for operating room practice.
  • May act as charge nurse for on-call, holidays, or assigned shifts.

Job description

The Registered Nurse manages individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. This position is responsible for the delivery of quality care in designated areas of surgical services while meeting standards as set forth by the state, regulatory agencies, and facility policies and procedures. This position performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and other professionals in the facility. This position maintains knowledge and skills required to perform as a professional registered nurse as well as those specific surgical services departments. This position promotes teamwork with all surgical team members and other departments. This position manages supplies and equipment effectively.

  • Develops and documents an individualized plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, surgeon, anesthesia provider, and perioperative team.
  • Implements the medical and nursing plan of care by serving as the circulating RN, coordinating sterile field setup, ensuring accurate counts, and maintaining patient safety throughout all phases of the surgical procedure.
  • Monitors and evaluates patient response to interventions, anesthesia, and surgical progress; modifies the plan of care based on continual reassessment.
  • Maintains accurate, real‑time documentation in the electronic medical record to support patient safety, regulatory compliance, and continuity of care.
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory, infection prevention, and safety standards, including ACHA, CMS, CDC, and internal policy requirements.
  • Manages OR supplies, equipment, implants, and specialty devices to ensure readiness, appropriate function, and availability for surgical procedures.
  • Provides technical and clinical support to surgeons, anesthesia, and the surgical team, including positioning, prepping assistance, obtaining instruments or equipment, and responding to emergent needs.
  • Promotes teamwork and communication among perioperative, anesthesia, and ancillary departments to ensure safe and efficient workflow.
  • Maintains current clinical knowledge and certifications required for practice in the operating room environment.
  • Performs responsibilities required by surgical services as defined by the scope of service and specific surgical specialty needs.
  • May act as charge nurse for on‑call, holidays, or assigned shifts, coordinating staffing, case flow, safety, and communication needs.
Qualifications

  • Associates Degree Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred
  • 1 year Perioperative nursing experience or Periop 101 training Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required and
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required

  • Must be able to return to the facility within 30 minutes during callback.
  • Ability to maintain composure and make clinical decisions during emergent situations.
