Job summary

Cayuga Health in Ithaca, NY is seeking an Oncology/Medical Oncology nurse to provide compassionate, patient-centered care at Cayuga Cancer Center.

The role includes comprehensive nursing assessments, chemotherapy and biotherapy administration per MD orders, medication checks, monitoring for adverse effects, and patient education within a multidisciplinary team. Per diem scheduling reflects varied shifts; on-site work with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• NYS Registered Nurse licensure is required.
• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Experience with chemotherapy administration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, obtain vital signs, and assess lab results for all patients.
• Administer chemotherapy and/or biotherapy per MD orders, ensuring confirmation of dosing based on the most recent labs and weight.
• Perform checks on treatment orders and medications, collaborating with a second RN or pharmacy for verification.
• Monitor for adverse effects or infusion-related reactions, responding appropriately, and managing side effects while providing education on proper self-care during treatment.
• Provide patient-specific education, including chemotherapy teaching sessions and regimen treatment plans and schedules.
• Utilize a multidisciplinary team to address patient-specific needs, report any concerns to the provider, and review previous treatment and recent provider notes to ensure appropriate regimens and labs are reviewed prior to treatment.

Required Skills and Experience

• Associates of applied science of nursing from accredited institution NYS Registered Nurse licensure

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 1-year med/surg nursing experience.

Physical Requirements

Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

Per Diem Pay Range Disclosure

$38.63 to $47.18 per hour
