Position Summary

The Registered Nurse is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team working alongside physicians to deliver culturally competent, comprehensive care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. They oversee coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care, ensuring alignment with the medical treatment plan.

Patient Care Process

• Assessment – systematic gathering and organization of subjective and objective data, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural elements.
• Planning – identification of problems and desired outcomes, producing a documented plan of care that guides the patient, family, and team.
• Intervention – execution of specific interventions or orders consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
• Evaluation – assessment of intervention effectiveness, determining outcomes, and initiating reassessment or plan revisions as needed.
• Education – tailored patient and family education aligned with identified problems and goals, fostering empowerment.
• Laboratory Services – perform limited laboratory tasks such as specimen collection, sample processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, monitoring results, and reporting findings to clinicians.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred.
• BSN‑candidate nurses must enroll within one year of hire and complete within three years.
• Current RN licensure in the State of New Jersey (or current multi‑state license).
• BLS certification required.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license (Adult and Child Partial Programs).

Experience

Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at hire; competency required within 30‑60 days.

Performance Expectations

Demonstrate competency in department‑specific skills as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous substances, infectious disease, radiation, and physical demands. Physical requirements include extensive standing, walking, stairs, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting 25‑50 lb frequently and 50‑100 lb with assistance occasionally, pushing and pulling heavy equipment, and transporting patients on stretchers. Some departments require color discrimination.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to patient care unit or department leadership.
